Ganesh Chaturthi also known as
Vinayaka Chaturthi, is one of India’s most beloved and widely celebrated
festival….It is very dear to each and every individual who is from Maharashtra,irrespective
of his cast or creed.It brings energy,excitement,ray of
hope,belief,faith,happiness and new beginnings during this festive season.For
them bappa is not only divine but also a part of their life with whom they can
share their problems,they can laugh,they can chat and they believe that he
always responds to them in his unique manner.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF GANESH CHATURTHI :-
Ganesh Chaturthi, is typically
observed in August or September…It marks the birth of Lord Ganesha..He is revered
as the remover of obstacles,It was first celebrated when Rashtrakuta,Satavahana
and Chalukya ruled between 271 BC and 1190 AD. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
realised the importance of Ganesh Chaturthi as a binding force among people so
that he will have a strong fighting force against Mughals. Thus,he use to
celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi on a massive scale in his kingdom. You will be
surprised to know that Ganesh Chaturthi even also had an important role in
freedom struggle of India. Ganesh Chaturthi was a in - house affair until 1893,
when our great freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak transformed the festival
into a grand public celebration to unite India against the British. He
encouraged people to make big Ganpati idols and celebrate in public so that he
can bring all sects of society together against British Raj.
TRADITIONS AND CELEBRATIONS

Idol Establishment:- The central aspect of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations
is the installation of bappa’s idols in homes and public pandals..These idols
are made of clay and are crafted with intricate details,and often vary in
size.. celebration vary from one and a half day to eleven days depending on the
wish of devotee. You will never feel that Bappa is of one section of society
but rather you will have a feel that he is of each and every individual

Prayers and puja :-Devotees offer prayers and pujas to invoke lord
Ganesh’s presence..Modak ,a sweet dumpling,is a favourite offering as it is
believed to be Bappa’s favourite..

Decorations:- Homes and pandals are adorned with colourful
decorations,flowers,and lights…Elaborated rangoli are created at the entrances
as a welcoming gesture…

Processions:- Grand processions,are accompanied by music and dance,They
carry the idol of Lord Ganesha through the streets for visarjan and accordingly
the visarjan of idol is done with much fanfare…This symbolises Bappa’s return
to his celestial abode and is a poignant moment in the festivities….

Eco friendly Initiatives:-One of the really appreciatable thing of
people of Maharashtra is that they respect a lot about environment and
therefore they adapted themselves to worship and carry out Visarjan of eco
friendly idols of Lord Ganesha in human made water bodies and even utilising
that water for plantation purpose.The visarjan of Bappa creates a void for few
days in the hearts of people with a deep faith that “Ganpati Bappa Varshi
Laukariya”.

Ganesh Chaturthi is not merely a
religious observance but a beautiful blend of spirituality,culture and
artistry.It reflects the Indian ethos of celebrating diversity,promoting unity
and seeking the blessings of wisdom and prosperity..As the vibrant celebrations
of Ganesh Chaturthi continue to captivate hearts,this festival remains a
testament to the enduring legacy of Lord Ganesha in Indian society….Also
Now as the celebrations are
over,everything has happened so smoothly seems as if it did not require any
efforts.But this is not the reality. To make our celebrations a real happy
affair, there is a big force of unsung heroes whom we never bother to say
thanks. Our police force, BMC people and lot of volunteers who have worked day
and night going beyond the call of duty to ensure that we should have safe and
happy Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
